Star Ratings

Healthmine, a leader in member engagement, advisory services and digital appointment scheduling solutions for health plans, announced that it delivered positive results for its clients in the 2027 Star Ratings and NCQA Health Plan Ratings, a major achievement after most health plans overall scores dropped from a tough scoring year.

Healthmine clients beat averages in 2027 MA Star Ratings

The 2027 Medicare Advantage Star Ratings national average saw an overall drop by 0.12 stars, and the share of contracts at 4 stars or higher fell by 16%. Healthmine client contracts held their ratings steady, and an additional 25% of clients increased performance to earn a 4-star bonus. These clients partnered with Healthmine for the full contract year to improve measure-level performance through meaningful member engagement, outreach and rewards.

“When we look at the data, the measures we worked on with each client averaged 0.27 stars higher than the measures we didn’t support for those programs,” says Dwight Erskine, CEO of Healthmine. “That’s a 10% advantage across the measures we touch, and it comes from being smarter about when and how we reach these populations. Now, our clients are better insulated from the significant cut point swings that’s dragging other payer scores down."

Healthmine delivers high performance in NCQA ratings for Medicaid and commercial clients

In the 2026 NCQA Health Plan Ratings, which assesses commercial and Medicaid health plan performance, showed the same pattern. Measures covered by Healthmine engagement programs averaged 0.38 stars higher than for measures outside program scope. The 13% advantage put Healthmine-supported measures above NCQA’s 3.00 national benchmark, and a third of them ranked in NCQA’s national top tier of 4 to 5 stars. Health plans consistently scored higher on the measures included in Healthmine programs than the measures that are out of scope.

“Plans want to know whether member engagement actually shows up in their ratings,” Erskine says. “We can point to it measure by measure, in Medicare Advantage, Medicaid and commercial, and the measures where we work with a plan score higher than the ones where we don’t.”

Big changes are coming and payers need to be ready

CMS begins removing the administrative measures next year, a group of non-clinical measures that help cushion performance for many health plans. Outcome measures already grew from 3% to 11% of the Overall rating between 2025 and 2027, which plans are seeing the impact of with the overall drop in scores.

“Once the administrative measures are gone, a plan’s rating will depend on whether members got their screenings and are managing their conditions, and on how they describe their own health when CMS asks,” Erskine says. “That is exactly what Healthmine programs are built to move.”
